Queer Critical Media Literacy and Possibilities for Counterhegemonic Pedagogy

Abstract In this paper, the author considers analysis of representation and production media as two generative pedagogical practices in which queer critical literacy can give students tools to read produce society texts counterhegemonic ways. Queering generates theoretical practice-oriented interventions that focus students’ teachers’ attention on production, including reproduction cisnormativity ableism well their critiques. Engaging with multimodal through affords teachers creative possibilities for reading producing texts, queering form a text, genre “assignment.” Such skills thinking serve lifetime while nurturing processes identification, representation, critique – powerful be useful response anti-queer sociopolitical tensions public education.
